Witchcraft, Spiritual Defiance, and the Cost of Holding Grudges
Why does the Bible compare rebellion to witchcraft? Witchcraft manipulates spiritual forces for selfish ends and ignores God’s authority. Unforgiveness does the same—preferring self-will, control, and justified pain above God’s freedom. Harvard’s studies show how letting go of blame boosts emotional healing and produces physical benefits by reducing anxiety and depression .
When we hold grudges, we attempt to manage justice ourselves, refusing to trust God’s ultimate authority and timing. This puts us in a place of spiritual defiance, echoing the pride of Saul who did things his own way. While the world excuses “justified” resentment, God describes it as dangerous—witchcraft—because it places our judgment above His mercy.
You cannot claim healing while practicing spiritual rebellion. True freedom means relinquishing control, opening your heart to God’s justice, and letting mercy have the final word.
Bible Verses:
“If you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” (Matthew 6:14)
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Romans 12:21)
“Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft.” (1 Samuel 15:23)
Call to Action:
List grievances you’ve clung to out of “principle.” Surrender each to God’s authority and pray to replace defiance with humility.
Three Things to Remember:
Witchcraft seeks control; forgiveness seeks release.
Grudges block God’s healing power.
Surrender gives peace no grudge can provide.
