Shield of Faith – Defending Against Spiritual Attacks

Theme: How faith serves as a shield against spiritual attacks during warfare.

Story: The Shield of Faith is one of the most powerful defenses in spiritual warfare. It blocks Satan’s fiery darts—lies, temptations, doubts—that aim to weaken us spiritually. Faith is what enables us to stand firm when we face challenges that seem insurmountable.

I remember a situation many years ago that truly tested my faith. I was working with two individuals—a former witch and a warlock—who had decided to leave the occult and accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. After months of prayer and guidance, they were finally baptized. It was a joyous occasion, and I felt victorious knowing they had left Satan’s kingdom and entered God’s family.

That evening, I went to sleep in my prayer closet—a special room where I prayed, fasted, and spent time with the Lord. My cat, Princess (whom we affectionately called Mama), joined me as I settled in for the night. As I drifted off to sleep, I began praising God for the victory He had won in these two lives. But suddenly, I found myself blaspheming the Lord and cursing Him in my sleep. Alarmed, I began praying fervently, asking God for clarity and protection.

Then something told me to open my eyes—and when I did, I saw a demon at the foot of my bed engulfed in flames. It was an intimidating sight, but I knew immediately what it represented: Satan’s anger over losing two souls from his kingdom. This was a direct spiritual attack meant to discourage me and instill fear.

I prayed aloud: “Lord! Please take care of this!” Exhausted from the day’s events, I turned over and tried to rest again. Moments later, my cat opened her eyes and let out a screech—a sound unlike anything I’d ever heard before. She saw the same fiery figure at the foot of the bed that I had seen. She jumped off the bed and ran to the corner where the demon had stood, sniffing around before fleeing from the room.

This experience reminded me that spiritual attacks are real and often come when we’re doing God’s work—especially when helping others leave darkness for light. The enemy doesn’t like losing ground, but through prayer and faith, we can combat his schemes effectively.

This wasn’t just an isolated incident—it was part of a larger spiritual battle that we all face daily. Sometimes these attacks manifest visibly, as they did for me that night. Other times they show up in subtle ways: health issues, family conflicts, workplace struggles, or even our own behavior. The enemy is relentless in his attempts to discourage us—but our faith is what shields us from his fiery darts.

As Romans 8:28 says: "For we know that all things work together for good to them that love God." The phrase “we know” signifies certainty—a certainty rooted in faith. Without faith, it’s impossible to stand firm against spiritual attacks or believe that God can turn trials into triumphs.

Relevance Today

In today’s world filled with uncertainty and challenges, spiritual attacks are more prevalent than ever. Whether through discouragement, fear, or doubt, Satan aims to weaken our resolve and distance us from God’s promises. The Shield of Faith allows us to block these fiery darts while trusting God’s plan for our lives.

Faith isn’t just believing—it’s knowing without a shadow of doubt that God is in control and will work all things together for good (Romans 8:28). This certainty empowers us to face trials with confidence and peace.

Bible Verses
