Focus: Emotional Triage Series Day 3: Naming Your Emotions
Naming your emotions is a foundational step in emotional triage. Too often, we move through life feeling overwhelmed, irritable, or numb, without taking the time to identify what we’re actually experiencing. When we pause to name our emotions—whether it’s anger, grief, disappointment, or joy—we gain clarity and control over our reactions. God invites us to bring our full selves to Him, including our messy feelings and hidden hurts. Naming emotions is not a sign of weakness but of self-awareness and courage. It helps us avoid stuffing down pain or lashing out in ways we regret. This practice creates space for healing, as we acknowledge what’s really going on beneath the surface. Once we name our emotions, we can begin to process them with God, seeking His comfort, wisdom, and guidance. Emotional triage is not about suppressing negative feelings but about understanding them so we can move forward in freedom. As we grow in this discipline, we become more compassionate toward ourselves and others, and more attuned to the gentle leading of the Holy Spirit.
