The Heart—Where Discouragement Begins
Years ago, after returning from a life-changing mission trip with my church, I found myself in a deep slump. Our spirits had been high, united in purpose and joy as we served together, knowing God was with us. But once I returned home, discouragement crept in. My heart felt heavy, weighed down by self-pity and unresolved struggles. The Bible shows that discouragement often starts in the heart—Cain’s offering was rejected, and his heart turned bitter, leading him to commit a terrible act against his brother Abel. When discouragement takes root, it can separate us from God’s presence and peace.
Bible Verses:
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” (Proverbs 4:23)
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)
“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10)
Call to Action:
Reflect on your heart’s condition. Invite God to heal any discouragement or bitterness and restore your joy.
Things To Remember:
Discouragement often begins in the heart.
Guard your heart with God’s truth.
God is near to the brokenhearted.
