Proverbs 18- Discovering Your Purpose – Healing Service

Theme

True purpose is found not in our past pain but in the healing and service that flow from a heart led by the Holy Spirit. Proverbs 18 teaches that the power of our words, choices, and reliance on God shapes our destiny and opens the way to meaningful, Spirit-filled living.

Personal Story
Have you ever wondered what your purpose in life is? For many years, I did. I was confused, living in the past, and letting bitterness and old wounds control my present. Spiritual strongholds-those patterns of thinking and feeling born from pain and deception-were ruining my life because I allowed them to.

As survivors of childhood abuse-whether physical, emotional, spiritual, or otherwise-our growth is often stunted by fear, sorrow, and memories that become obsessions. Many victims get stuck, reliving their pain and letting it define them. But here’s the amazing news: through the Holy Spirit, we can move forward and become true survivors.

I saw this firsthand during my psychology internship with a well-known Christian psychologist. Despite her credentials, she was angry and broken, unable to help her clients or staff truly heal. One staff member, still deeply wounded, struggled to lead others. It showed me that we cannot help or serve others until we have received true healing ourselves.

When I finally surrendered my pain to Christ, the Holy Spirit led me into a healthy life and a heart of service. I discovered my purpose: to use my testimony to help others heal and to serve with love. As Ephesians 4:11-12 says, God equips each of us for service to build up the body of Christ. When we are healed, our hearts naturally overflow in service, and one day, our Savior will say, “Well done.”

Relevance Today
Many people are trapped by their past, unable to move forward or serve others. Proverbs 18 reminds us, “The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe” (Proverbs 18:10). Healing and purpose come not from our own strength, but from running to God and letting the Holy Spirit lead and empower us. When we are healed, we can serve others with genuine love and compassion.
