Finding Light in the Wilderness Experience

Finding Light in the Wilderness Experience

Have you ever felt like you're wandering through a spiritual wilderness, longing for the comfort of familiar ground? Recently, I found myself in such a crucible, broken and tired, arguing with God much like our biblical ancestors during their exodus from Egypt.

In the Bible, we see the Israelites repeatedly yearning for their past life as slaves whenever they faced hardships in the wilderness. The Lord revealed to me that I, too, had fallen into this pattern. I caught myself complaining about my struggles in Puerto Rico, romanticizing my life back in the States.

The Holy Spirit gently reminded me that this earthly realm is not our final home. We're just passing through the wilderness, much like the Israelites did. This perspective shift was crucial in helping me navigate my spiritual breakdown.

During this challenging time, my spiritual mother Bruni Quiñonez wisely directed me to read Romans 8. As I delved into this familiar chapter, it felt like I was reading it for the first time. The words jumped off the page, speaking directly to my situation.

The first verse struck me with newfound power:
"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." - Romans 8:1
This verse, along with those that followed, provided immediate answers to my spiritual dilemma. They reminded me that when faced with seemingly insurmountable situations, we often revert to the flesh, desiring to return to our comfort zones – even if those zones represent a form of slavery.

As I reflected on these truths, I realized that my flesh was yearning for the familiar comforts of my past life – a life where I didn't have to contend with power outages, water shortages, or unexpected wildlife at my doorstep. But the Spirit was calling me to something greater.

Call to Action: Are you feeling lost in your own spiritual wilderness? Take a moment today to read Romans 8:1-5. Let these verses remind you of your freedom in Christ and encourage you to walk in the Spirit, even when the path seems difficult.

Remember, your current struggles are not your final destination
