Resisting Defensive Walls—Choosing Openness over Isolation

After deep hurt, the temptation is to build walls and withdraw. Yet, Paul teaches, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2) Though it’s wise to protect yourself, it’s also necessary to remain open to new, healthy relationships in the Body of Christ. Jesus surrounded himself with imperfect disciples, knowing love risks pain but also offers profound healing.

Bible Verses:

  • “Bear one another’s burdens…” (Galatians 6:2)

  • “Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.” (1 Peter 4:8)

  • “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2)

Call to Action:
Consider ways to keep your heart open to new relationships or restoration. Pray for discernment and courage to receive healthy love.

3 Things to Remember:

  • Isolation may protect, but also starves relational healing.

  • Love makes you vulnerable, but also strong.

  • Carrying burdens together is God’s design.
