Focus: Surviving When Christians Hurt You Day 24 | September 24

When Loyalty is Used Against You

Like spiders using fireflies for the glow, some friends may keep you close for what you offer, rather than genuine love. The experience can result in feeling trapped, not celebrated. Jesus experienced betrayal even from His inner circle (Judas). Set wise boundaries; real friendship releases, it doesn’t exploit.

Bible Verses:

  • “Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.” (Proverbs 27:6)

  • “One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” (Proverbs 18:24)

  • “Let love be genuine…” (Romans 12:9)

Call to Action:
Ask God to highlight relationships rooted in genuine care versus selfish gain. Seek friends who celebrate your growth.

3 Things to Remember:

  • True loyalty is mutual, not manipulative.

  • Friendship should release you, not trap you.

  • Boundaries protect your joy and freedom.
