Character—Shaped by How We Respond
Our character is tested and shaped by how we respond to discouragement. In my season of struggle, I realized that bitterness and resentment could easily take hold if I didn’t surrender my pain to God. The Bible is filled with examples—Cain allowed discouragement to turn his character toward hatred, while David and Elijah ultimately sought God despite their despair. True character is refined through adversity and by choosing faith over bitterness.
Bible Verses:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace…” (Galatians 5:22)
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds…” (James 1:2)
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people… clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” (Colossians 3:12)
