I witnessed firsthand the power of the Holy Spirit during an intense spiritual battle several years ago. At the time, I was renting a room from a young woman while searching for a permanent home. One evening, she came to me, visibly distressed, and handed me a bottle of pills. She confessed that she was being compelled to take her own life. Something beyond her control was tormenting her and pushing her toward despair.

I followed her into her room, praying silently for wisdom and protection. As I walked inside, I sensed a demonic presence in the room. This wasn’t ordinary sadness or fear—it was something far darker and more oppressive. Though I didn’t have my regular Bible on hand (it was being refurbished), I relied on Scriptures I had memorized to begin fighting this battle.

For over 40 minutes, I prayed Scripture aloud and rebuked the enemy in the name of Jesus Christ. The battle intensified as the enemy hurled accusations at me, demanding, “Who are you?” I boldly declared: “I am a child of the King—the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob! By the power of Jesus Christ and His sacrifice on Calvary, I stand in victory over you!”

The Holy Spirit strengthened me throughout the battle, reminding me of truths from God’s Word and guiding me in what to say and pray. The young woman knelt on the floor, crying out to Jesus, asking forgiveness, and inviting Him into her heart. By the end of the battle, the oppressive presence left the room, and peace filled the space.

While the victory was clear, there were lasting reminders of the warfare we had faced. Her small dog, which had been in the room during the battle, exhibited aggressive and abnormal behavior afterward, attacking the other animals in the house. Sadly, the dog had to be put down—a stark reminder of the enemy’s attempts to harm and destroy wherever he can.

This experience reinforced a profound truth: we are never alone in spiritual warfare. The Holy Spirit intercedes for us, strengthens us, and equips us to stand firm when we face the enemy. Even when words fail, He intercedes with groanings too deep for words (Romans 8:26-27), ensuring we are never abandoned in our battles.
