Identifying and Confronting Strongholds
Your healing journey starts with first step... become a detective of your heart! To begin unchaining our hearts, we must identify the strongholds that hold us captive that keep our hearts in a broken state.
A spiritual stronghold is a mental or emotional stronghold built on lies that oppose God’s truth. These lies can stem from past wounds, sin, or cultural beliefs, and they act as barriers, keeping us from experiencing God’s love and joy.
The Bible describes these strongholds in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5:
"The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds."
Strongholds can take many forms:
- Fear that paralyzes us.
- Anger that harms relationships.
- Despair that blinds us to hope.
- Unforgiveness that chains us to bitterness.
To confront these strongholds, we must rely on God’s spiritual weapons: His Word, prayer, worship, and obedience to Christ. Ephesians 6 reveals the armor of God, equipping us to stand firm and tear down these barriers.
This New Year, let’s commit to identifying the lies we’ve believed and replacing them with God’s truth.
By taking every thought captive and making it obedient to Christ, we can begin breaking free from strongholds and stepping into the freedom God desires for us!
